ICELAND: Fjadrargljufur Canyon

Fjadrargljufur Canyon (please don't ask me how to pronounce that - despite my best efforts I never mastered this one!) is such a stunning location. It seriously looks like something you would find in Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings, anyone?). Getting to the canyon was a bit of a challenge - the drive was difficult, and the hiking trail was muddy. To top it all off, it rained on us the entire time. Regardless of the elements, I would absolutely do it all over again - the view was so worth it!

This ancient site was created by gradual erosion from glaciers over thousands of years. It's a truly unique location that is worth a visit. It is located slightly off of the main road, but is accessible by most vehicles. Plus, you can also park near the bottom for a view through the canyon. We missed out on that view, in favor of walking around the rim of the canyon.

This is part of a series of posts about our trip to Iceland.
